Why is there a Bee in our logo ?

Have you wondered why there is a bee in our logo?

When Signature Occasions was formed, our founder, Deborah Simmons, wanted a company name and logo that had personal meaning but did not specifically include her name. Since the name 'Deborah' means "the bee" (from the list of name meanings), the symbol was a perfect choice.

Kristen Blackard is our most recent addition to the Signature Occasions' team. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a degree in Hospitality Management and has planned weddings and events for seven years. Her experience ranges from intimate affairs to lavish 500 person receptions, destination weddings, themed parties and University fundraising events. Kristen prides herself on creating events specific to each bride and within their budget. She loves developing a relationship with a bride, understanding their vision and making it come true. We feel fortunate that Kristen chose our company to share her talents!!

Congratulations to Deborah Simmons for being appointed the Association of Bridal Consultants FIRST Mississippi State Coordinator!! Deborah will be responsible for holding regional meetings and workshops, building a network of wedding consultants and vendors throughout the state and representing Mississippi at the National conference. Such a prestigious honor is a result of Deborah's ongoing participation in ABC's education programs and events and a commitment to excellence in the wedding industry.

After the national conference of ABC(Association of Bridal Consultants), I can officially say I have personally enjoyed the presentations of all of these celebrity Event Planners! For the past three years, ABC has had Preston Bailey (2006 - Colorado Springs, CO), David Tutera (2007 - Orlando, FL) and Colin Cowie (2008 - Newport Beach, CA) as Guest Speakers for our annual conference. What an impressive line-up and what a wonderful way to learn from these masters. I also must not forget Mary Dann ('Who's Wedding is it Anyway' fame) who is an ABC member and also made a great presentation in Newport Beach, CA.

Signature Occasions is always present at ABC's national conference - we wouldn't think of passing up such a wonderful chance to enhance our education and stay 'on top' as to what is new and trendy in the wedding industry.

I cannot believe it has been over a month since I last typed a Post!! The time is just flying by and we are busy visting with new brides-to-be and booking weddings for 2009!

Next Saturday we will be flying off to Newport Beach, California to attend the Association of Bridal Consultants National Convention. As dedicated, professional consultants we believe in continuing education and always strive to stay on the cutting edge of new happenings in weddings and events. Colin Cowie will be the celebrity presenter so we are expecting some great new ideas and tips for our upcoming weddings.

Needlesss to say our trip was wonderful and we saw some incredible scenery ~ super places to say 'I do' or spend a leisurely honeymoon week. If you are remotely even thinking of a European destination wedding or honeymoon ~ we must visit!! Once I get my pictures organized I will post some so you can see just how beautiful it was.

We are back 'in the groove' of wedding things and adding new stuff everyday. If you haven't stopped by to see our new office, please do when you are in the neighborhood. We're Making Progress!!

The contractor is finally here and we are making progress and I have been assured that he will be finished in time for our June 30 move-in. This is going to be such a great location with cool stuff happening all around us. Once we get moved in we're going to have an Open House so everyone can stop by and see our new home!

Our business has grown and we are moving!! On or before July 1 we will be located in Olde Towne Ridgeland at 115 N. Wheatley Street - on the west side of the railroad tracks. It is a dark red 'shot-gun' style house with a cute white porch on the front - I will post a picture soon. You must stop by after moving day and see what we've got going on!!
